Program Coordinator/Group Leader
Bruce is going into
his fourth year as the EIL Teacher Co-coordinator and
Teacher Group Leader for EIL Teacher Groups to Asia.
This summer's trip will be Bruce's sixth time to Asia.
When Bruce is not doing summer trips to China he is
the principal at the Newfane Elementary School. He resides
with his wife Lynne and his two cats in the village
of Newfane Vermont. |
Chris
Frantz
Deputy Director, EIL
Inspired by his experiences abroad
in Europe and Asia, Chris began working for The Experiment
in International Living in 1996. His focus is on student
recruitment, materials, and programs in Asia. Chris
is not traveling to China this time. He will be supporting
the group from Vermont. |

National Guide - Hebei Foreign Service Center, China
Age: 23
Nationality: Hui
Peipei attended the 2001-2005 Xi'an Foreign Language
University from 2001-2005. She now works in the Hebei
Foreign Service Center, working for CAEE. "I am
interested in communicating with people with different
cultures and I feel proud to have the opportunity to
introduce my great country to the people from America."

Ernest Broadwater
Lyndon State College - VT
Ernie is a professor of education
at Lyndon State College. “The opportunity to travel
to China on a trip such as this is a fantastic way for
me to increase my ability to share more of a world perspective
with my students. Our home stays are unique and will
provide us a special and unique view. It is my hope
to make a similar China trip a possibility for teachers
in northern Vermont.”

Christine Chapman
Springfield High School - VT
Christine works for Springfield High
School with the Occupational Development Program.
She also teaches American Sign Language to grades
K thru 5 in an after school program. She is a wife
and mother of one son with two grandchildren (twins)
She loves camping and being at the ocean as much as
possible. Quilting is her hobby. "I am looking
forward to this venture as a fantastic experience."
She hopes to get some great photographs in black and
white "I would like to capture the intensity
of the land and its people. "

Nathan Turner
The Beacon School - NY
Nathan teaches 10th and 11th grade
history at a college preparatory public high in New
York City. His extracurricular activities include:
coordinating the Gay/Straight Alliance, coaching the
debate team and facilitating student trips to Venezuela,
Cuba, and, most recently, a relief brigade to New
Orleans. He got his BA at Carleton College ('93),
an ABD at Emory University in Interdisciplinary Studies,
and received his masters in the teaching of social
studies from Teachers College in 2005. |
Frank Redmond
Mt. Anthony Union High School - VT
Frank is a special educator and
teacher of the deaf. He services students with language
needs in English as well as helps coordinate services
for students who have hearing loss. Frank has experience
with people from a number of cultures from his work
in the international department of a large bank in
Boston, as well as involvement with groups that sponsored
and supported Southeast Asians as they arrived in
the United States after the Vietnam War. "I continue
to have great interest in Asian populations and look
forward to my travels sponsored by the Experiment
in International Living this summer."

Christine Ferris-Hubbard
The Dorset School - VT

Chris is finishing her first year
of teaching - in a 3rd grade. She lives in Salem,
New York with her husband and two teenaged sons, a
dog and two cats. Chris recently graduated with a
Masters from the College of St. Joseph. She received
a B.S. from Green Mountain College, where she took
several courses that focused on China and Eastern
religions. "After having read and studied about
China, I am VERY excited at the prospect of being
able to see first hand the things that I have spent
many hours reading about. I am still amazed that I
have this opportunity to go to China!"

Kraig Hannum
Manchester Elementary
Middle School - VT
Kraig is a middle school social studies
teacher at Manchester Elementary Middle School. He
lives with his wife and two sons in Dorset, Vermont.

Pamela Frost
Rutland High School - VT

Pam teaches Physical Education to
grades 9-12 during the regular academic school year
and teaches Marine Biology during the YES Plan (an
experiential program during the last month of the
school year). She travels with her Marine Biology
students to places such as: The Caribbean, The Galapagos
Islands, The coast of Maine, and Alaska. Her focus
is primarily marine science and the culture and history
of each region. When asked to apply for the EIL trip
to China she was elated. She is eager to integrate
her China experience into her Physical Education and
Marine Biology classrooms.

| Rachel Robillard
Student-Teacher In Training - VT
Rachel is a recent graduate from Lyndon
State College with a B.S. in Elementary Education and
a B.A. in Liberal Studies. Rachel lives in Troy, Vermont
where she spends her spare time hiking, running, golfing,
and snowshoeing with her boyfriend Greg. This summer
will be Rachel's first time traveling outside of the
United States. "I'm not sure if I'm more excited
than nervous!" |
Lina Chopra
Baruch College Campus High School - NY
Lina is finishing up her first year
of teaching at Baruch College Campus High School in
Manhattan. She teaches 11th grade pre calculus, a
public speaking elective, and has a 9th grade advisory.
"I'll miss New York City this summer, but can't
wait to go to China!!"

Union High School - VT
Bruce has traveled
to Europe and lived in Finland. "China is so exciting
because it is so foreign to me. It is outside my comfort
zone and, for a science teacher, it is like my own personal
moonwalk. That is very cool."

Jane Wilde
Academy, Oak Grove and Green St. Elementary Schools
- VT
Jane is a computer technologist who
works with three elementary schools in Brattleboro
Vermont. She has traveled in Europe and Africa. Until
now Asia has seemed too far and too different to be
approachable. "CHINA! I just can't believe that
I am getting this opportunity."

Jesse Lepkoff
Newfane Elementary School - VT

Jesse works as a special education
paraprofessional at The Newfane School. He is also a
professional baroque flute and a recorder player, having
traveled the globe and recorded extensively with The
Boston Camerata. He started playing the guitar at an
early age and now plays, sings and composes Brazilian
Bossa Nova. He also studied cooking and was a chef and
pastry man for many years. He is excited to gather more
knowledge of Chinese food, art and music on this trip
and share his musical talents on the way. |
